Abstract:
Objective To investigate the characteristic of the ambulatory blood pressure and diurnal rhythm of blood pressure in elderly with hypertension at the stage of different ages.
Methods Three hundred and forty-six patients were divided into three groups according to their ages: group A(aged from 60 to 69 years, n=77), group B(aged from 70 to 79 years, n=109), group C(age≥80 years, n=160). The parameters and incidence of abnormal blood pressure on diurnal rhythm were analyzed in all the patients.
Results Twenty-four-hour average diastolic pressure (24 h DBP) was higher in the group A [(74.85±11.11)mmHg] and group B [(71.88±10.52)mmHg] than that in group C [(68.80±9.06)mmHg] (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) (F=9.95, P<0.05). The rates of abnormal of diurnal rhythm of blood pressure were 76.63% (group A), 87.16%(group B), 90.63%(group C) respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=8.79, P<0.05), which was remarkable different between group A and group C (χ2=8.50, P<0.05).
Conclusions 24 h DBP decreases in elderly with hypertension with age increasing.Non-dipper and reverse dipper blood pressure are more commonly symptoms with abnormal of diurnal rhythm of blood pressure in elderly with hypertension.Abnormal rate of decreases diurnal rhythm of blood pressure is variational along with age.
