Abstract:

Vascular calcification is prevalent in patients with atherosclerosis, old age, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney diseases. It is highly associated with increased morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular diseases. At present, arterial calcification is a kind of active regulation process similar to bone formation, in which vascular smooth muscle cells are the cytological basis. However, the exact mechanism of arterial calcification is not clear, a variety of factors such as C-reactive protein, bone morphogenetic proteins, NLRP3 inflammatory body and osteoprotegerin and so on can affect its progress. This paper briefly reviews the relationship among inflammation, cytokines and related immunity with arterial calcification.
