Abstract:

Objective

To explore the diagnostic characteristics of synchronous mucinous metaplasia and neoplasia of the female genital tract (SMMN-FGT).

Methods

The clinical data of a patient with SMMN-FGT who was admitted to the Gynecology Department, Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University on August 27, 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, and the diagnostic characteristics were analyzed and relevant literatures were reviewed.

Results

A 59-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital because of no obvious inducement for continuous abdominal pain for more than 1 month, with vaginal drainage and no other typical clinical manifestations. Human papilloma virus (HPV) was negative. The imaging findings only showed the tendency of bilateral adnexal cystadenomas and multiple cystic nodules in the cervix. Bilateral ventral salpingo-oophorectomy, total hysterectomy and pelvic adhesion release were performed. Postoperative pathology suggested that SMMN-FGT was combined with endometrial borderline mucinous tumor and bilateral ovarian borderline clear cell adenofibroma changes.

Conclusions

The majority of the clinical signs and symptoms of SMMN-FGT are vaginal discharge, and imaging examinations have limited utility. The gold standard for the diagnosis of SMMN-FGT is a pathological investigation.
