Abstract:

This article describes the definition and diagnosis of nonspecific pleuritis (NSP). NSP is generally applied to the patients with pleural effusion of which the cause is uncertain, and the histological finding in pleural biopsies is pleural inflammation (pleuritis/fibrosis), but there are not specific findings such as tuberculous or malignant disease.Certain causes of the majority of NSP patients can be subsequently found, including benign disease or inflammation, tuberculosis, mesothelioma and so on.The correct definition and diagnostic methods of NSP contribute to timely diagnosis and treatment towards these patients for clinical guidance.

Key words: Nonspecific pleuritis, Pleural effusion, Diagnosis
