Abstract:

Objective

To explore the possible association between the polymorphism of glutathione S-transferases (GST) and the intelligence development of six-month-old infants.

Methods

DNA was extracted from the cord blood, and the GSTM1-02 genotypes were measured by multiple polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the genotypes of GSTM3 (rs7483) and GSTT2(rs140195, rs2719) were measured by the SequenomMassArray system.Gesell development diagnostic scale was used to measure the development quotients (DQs) of 5 domains.

Results

The percentage of DQs less than 90 of the 5 domains was from 2.3% to 6.8%.The valid and invalid genotypes of GSTM1-02 was almost in the same percentage. The minor allele frequency of rs7483, rs140195 and rs2719 were 25.3%, 35.2% and 25.6%, respectively.Multivariate analysis showed that CC genotype indicated higher risk for lower DQs of adaptive, gross motor and fine motor behaviors compared to TT genotype with OR and 95% CI 10.51(1.31, 84.41), 4.44(1.18, 16.72)and 3.61(1.02, 12.74), respectively.

Conclusion

The polymorphism of rs7483 of GSTM3 may influence the intelligence development even when the infant is 6 months old.
