Abstract:

Peripheral neuropathy refers to a class of diseases that cause peripheral neurosensory and motor dysfunction indirectly or directly. It mainly includes traumatic nerve injury, compressive nerve injury, neurogenic tumor, metabolic neuropathy and infectious neuropathy. In recent years, with the improvement of ultrasound probe resolution and image quality, ultrasound has become more and more widely used in the screening and diagnosis of a variety of peripheral nerve diseases, so it has attracted the attention of clinicians. With the rapid development of ultrasound elastography, which uses tissue elasticity to assess the stiffness of peripheral nerves, the ultrasound elastography is more sensitive to the diagnosis of atypical or mild neuropathy than high-frequency ultrasound. This article summarizes the latest progress on the study of peripheral neuropathy with these two methods, in order to guide clinical practice.
