Comparison of 24 h ambulatory pulse pressure and circulating cystatin C in the elderly patients with hypertension in the groups of different ages

Objective

To investigate the characteristics of the 24 h ambulatory pulse pressure(24 hAPP) and circulating cystatin C(CysC) in the elderly patients with hypertension in the groups of different ages.

Methods

One hundred and forty-two hospitalized elderly patients with hypertension from July 2015 to December 2016 were divided into two groups according to their ages: elderly hypertension group(group A, aged from 60 to 79, n=96), very elderly hypertension group(group B, aged from 80 to 92, n=46). The changes of levels of 24hAPP and circulating CysC were analysed.

Results

The 24 hAPP levels were (61.92±1.27)mmHg (group A) and (68.91±1.91)mmHg (group B) respectively, the level of 24 hAPP in group B was higher than that in group A (t=-3.08, P<0.05). The level of circulating CysC in group B [(1.22±0.08)mg/L] was higher than that in group A [(0.90±0.04)mg/L] (t=-3.72, P<0.01).

Conclusion

In elderly patients with hypertension, the levels of 24 hAPP and circulating CysC are higher with the increasing age.
