Abstract:

Objective

To explore the clinical application value of dual energy computed tomography angiography (CTA) in the diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis and plaque.

Methods

Application of dual energy CT carotid angiography with automatic bone removal technology in eighty patients were retrospectively analyzed in our hospital.Thirty patients underwent angiography (DSA) examination in 2 weeks, and the examination results of DSA were compared with the findings of dual energy CTA.Carotid atherosclerosis plaque type and distribution of different groups of eighty patients were detected with dual energy CTA and different types of plaques in carotid artery segment distribution of different groups were compared. All the data were analyzed with square test.

Results

The display satisfaction rate of carotid artery by dual energy automatic bone removal technology was 86.0% among eighty cases, the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA-E) showed the highest rate (96.3%). The narrow rate of CTA examination results was compared with DSA in thirty patients, and the narrow coincidence rate exceeded 90.0% in severe stenosis. In eighty patients, seventy-two cases were detected plaque.Soft plaque mainly located in the CCA segment (63/115), hard plaque mainly located in the ICA-I segment (81/132), and mixed plaque mainly located in the ICA-E segment (54/85). There were significant differences in the distribution of different types of carotid arteries plaques (χ2=12.17, P<0.05).

Conclusions

Dual source dual energy CT carotid artery imaging is a simple, rapid, noninvasive checking method, and it provides higher reference frame for prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular events by the analysis of carotid plaques and the stenosis degree.
