Abstract:

Traditionally, imaging diagnosis of respiratory diseases in children often relies on chest X-ray and CT examinations. With technical development, lung ultrasound (LUS) has been successfully applied for diagnosis of lung abnormalities, monitoring of disease progress and assessment of treatment response. This LUS technique has been rapidly recognized by pediatricians and advocated by children′s family because of its diagnostic capability and non-radiation hazards. This article reviews and summarizes the current literatures related to LUS examination technique and pediatric applications in lung abnormalities, including congenital malformations, respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary edema, pneumonia, trauma, and neoplasms.
