The characters of electroencephalogram power in patients with Alzheimer disease

Abstract:

Objective

To study the change of electroencephalogram (EEG)power in patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD).

Methods

Thirty patients with AD and thirty healthy people were included.EEG was recorded during eyes-closed resting condition and was transformed to provide estimate for total power, absolute and relative power in delta, theta, alpha and beta activity frequency bands and δ+ θ/α+ β power radio.

Results

The power radio of δ+ θ/α+ β at Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, C3, C4, P3, P4, O1, O2, F7, F8, T3, T4, T5, T6 in group AD[(1.18±0.27), (1.11±0.30), (1.05±0.36), (1.03±0.31), (1.00±0.33), (1.06±0.36), (0.99±0.38), (1.04±0.37), (0.97±0.37), (1.05±0.38), (0.99±0.33), (1.10±0.23), (0.91±0.28), (0.93±0.32), (1.00±0.40), (0.95±0.34)] were significantly higher than those in controls [(0.65±0.19), (0.63±0.09), (0.59±0.13), (0.55±0.11), (0.54±0.18), (0.49±0.12), (0.50±0.19), (0.47±0.13), (0.40±0.21), (0.40±0.14), (0.61±0.18), (0.59±0.14), (0.59±0.19), (0.54±0.16), (0.45±0.18), (0.50±0.18)] (P<0.05). The power of relative band theta at Fp1、Fp2、F3、F4、C3、C4、P3、P4、O1、O2、F7、F8、T3、T4、T5、T6 in group AD were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.05). The power of relative band delta at Fp2, F4, C4, P3, P4, O1, O2, F7, F8, T5 in group AD were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.05, P<0.01). The power of relative band alpha at Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, C3, C4, P4, O1, O2, F7, F8, T3, T5, T6 in group AD were significantly lower than those in controls (P<0.05). The power of band theta at Fp1, Fp2, F8, T4, P4 in group AD were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.05). The power of band alpha at Fp1, F3, O1, O2, F7 in group AD were significantly lower than those in controls (P<0.05). The power of band beta at P3, O1, O2, T5 in group AD were significantly lower than those in healthy people(P<0.05).

Conclusions

The quantiative electroencephalography (QEEG )of patients with Alzheimer disease is significantly different from controls, QEEG is helpful to diagnose AD.
